A test … as I’ve noticed a couple of ‘password change’ requests … all miniLegends have been changed to become Editors of their own blogs.
The features they have access to are in bold below.

Dashboard - Dashboard, Promote Your Blog

Write - Write Post, Write Page, Write Tweet

Manage - Posts, Pages, Uploads, Categories, Import, Export, Subscriptions

Comments - Comments, Awaiting Moderation (0), Akismet Spam (0)

Blogroll - Manage Blogroll, Add Link, Import Links, Categories

Presentation - Themes, Widgets, Current Theme Options

Plugins - Plugins, Google Analytics, Akismet Configuration

Users - Authors & Users, Your Profile, Your Avatar, Blog & User Creator, Invites

Options - General, Writing, Reading, Discussion, Privacy, Delete Blog, FeedBurner, Blog Avatar, Blog Type, Forums, Twitter Tools, Inline Google Maps 2, Subscribe to Comments, AMP, Contact Form (Editors are greeted by “nice try”)

Upgrades - Upgrades, Credits, History

I also unchecked ‘Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)’… who knows what someone might put in their post when they link to you?
Keep “safe and savvy”.

What it does mean is that students can’t change their passwords. They also can’t delete or change my editorial status from administrator.

I would still like a way for all posts to be sent to me although I do check them regularly. Currently I am the only administrator of their blogs.

I’m really in two minds about this. What do others think?

minis please share what you like (don’t like) about blogging

Hi Al
how do you find the individual student pages on the class blog working for you? I’m trying to go the one-blog/individual-user page route with mine.

Great to see the Minis back in 08!

avatar   3. Graham - March 8, 2008

Al, the set up as you describe it is the way I am setting up the LA20 blogs. Some want to change passwords but then that information will slip from my grasp. I am using a gmail account to have all comment moderation come my way and used the name+user feature so all passwords are in that account. So far, so good. And I poached your mentor idea and re-badged for my own purposes.

Thanks for the speedy response guys.

Kate: You won’t find the individual pages until you create them.
Create a new page (use the link on your dashboard or ‘Write’>’Write Page’), Title = ‘Our Blogs’ (or similar), type a few words eg “In the right hand sidebar are our individual pages”>Publish … Create a new page, Title = student’s first name eg Alphonso (then Beata, Chantrice etc)>Open ‘Page Parent’>select ‘Our Blogs’>Publish … and so on through the alphabet. Great to see Kate Foy back ‘Spinning a Learning Web’ :)

Graham: Yeah its the unfortunate way to go. Although I’ve never had trouble before this year I have indications of passwords being changed and so need to retain control. The gmail trick works well but have you had a look at the ‘Blog & User Creator’ under ‘Users’ in your dashboard? [It may only be an Edublogs Supporter feature … in which case it’s well worth the money. These things always seem to come along after you’ve done the hard yard … hopefully its not too late for you.]
“… create multiple users and blogs and add yourself as admin to them …You can create up to 15 different users and blogs at one time and new users will be emailed their usernames and passwords automatically. If you need more than 15 please simply process this form and then start again.”
If anyone uses this please let me know how you go. Cheers, Al

Hi Al
Oops! I mean how do you find them working for you as in are you satisfied with this arrangement? Not being able to post on these pages means a constant editing and adding to individual pages through the ‘manage’ tab. Just wondered how your students were coping?
(Sorry for the confused expression!)

avatar   6. Al Upton - March 8, 2008

Sorry Kate, it looks like I couldn’t focus right throught to the emd of your first sentence! Yes it is clear to me now, thanks.
I like having all the posts on one page and the individual pages (with comments) easily visible - eg in this Regulus theme. I have tried the different techniques I mention in my previous posts but prefer my students to have their own blogs with as much freedom (that I can monitor) as possible. A blend of student safety and autonomy I suppose. Having all student pages on the one blog means they are restricted to single pages with comments on the one page only. It would be handy to have an edit page feature on each page once we are logged in - the same as we have for posts. At this early stage my students are just communicating through their post page. Later they will add pages of personal interest and for projects etc. - to their own blogs. I am excited to add some of the new Edublog features to our class blog eg forums. My kids are 8 and 9 year olds and handle the manage posts and pages quite well. The alternative for you would be the ‘Blog & User Creator’ feature I mentioned above to Graham. have fun and please let me know how you go. Cheers, Al

Hi, Al

It’s to bad were’re not going to be Administraters any more.
To be honest I don’t feel comfortable with sharing our work online.
But i really like doing blogging and cammunicating. But the best thing about it is we actually get to cammunicate with people we do and don’t know like…….Buddies, Family, Friends, Mentors.

I really love getting comments and replying to them.

Highest Regards, Paige
