You could try using a generic email eg set up a class email address (one for all pupils) or individual (one each)... try using gmail (a free site and easy to establish). Maintaining email accounts becomes a consideration but may be a solution regarding the security settings NSW D o E may have set. I don't know if there's any legal issues regarding this but you may need to do a little more checking.

Once you've done this, you should go to your comments admin settings found in your admin section and ensure you have checked the option to moderate all comments (you can then moderate the comments prior to approving them). Students can use the generic email account but you could hold the password/s.

Students could still use their own NSW D o E email accounts for emails and use the blog for comments and collaboration.

In my case, see:
http://altan.edublogs.org
I have a class blog in Victoria. I administer the account and add student works myself (as students present samples). Students can comment using any email they wish to us (the email address is not published... it's only used as a means of checking... anti spamming etc). So, I suggest they use the class generic email for this. Students don't use the generic email for any other purpose (many have their own home account anyway).

My students are at grade 5 level so I impose comment moderation as a cyber-safety measure. My approach requires quite a degree of maintenance usually in my own time but, it's worth it.

I have a problem. I have an edublog.I work for the NSW Department of Education, Australia. Our students have Department allocated emails for security reasons. I cannot seem to get them addded as users so they can sign in using their own email address and/or password

Al - I am just starting in this blogging area and to be honest, i am freaked out! I am a tech geek teaching English. What I want to do is to set up an blog area where my students can write posts while reading literature. What is the easiest way to do this? There are 55 of them and they would have to post an entry after every class. I am toying with creating pages in a wiki or using edublogs and creating a single blog. these are 10th graders in high school by the way. any help would be appreciated. thank you!
